This course is designed for persons who require the skills and knowledge to provide first aid response, life support and the management of casualties at an incident until the arrival of medical or other assistance. Gives you the confidence needed to act effectively in an emergency situation.

This nationally accredited course provides participants with the essential skill and knowledge required to manage life threatening emergencies. It is relevant for people working in the education, aged care, sport, outdoor recreation, hospitality, industry enterprises as well as in the home or other environments. Worksafe deems this course is “The minimum acceptable level of training for first aid officers “ 4.1 2008 Compliance Code.

 Course Content

• Assessing an emergency situation
• Airway and breathing management
• CPR Techniques
• First aid management of the unconscious casualty
• Management of heart conditions
• Infection control and First Aid of minor wounds
• Allergic reactions and asthma
• Control of external bleeding and shock
• Management of near drowning
• Hyperthermia and hypothermia
• Burns and electric shock
• Eye and soft tissue injuries
• Venomous bites and stings
• Fractures and spinal injuries
• Head, chest and abdominal injuries
• Assessment and movement of the sick and injured
• Recording vital signs
• Communicating details of an incident
• Debriefing and evaluation of response to critical injuries

 Qualification

• A nationally- recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued to all successful applicants.
• The qualification will be valid for 3 years and the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends a CPR update every 12 months.

 Duration

Flexible delivery, 1 day training.

Theory workbook to be completed prior to training date.

 Prerequisites

There are no prerequisite units. Participants should have numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to level 2 of the National Reporting System.

 Assessment methods

Progressive assessment throughout the course. This includes the demonstration of practical skills and answering of written and oral questions.
